![]() I’m not even a dessert guy, but this was worth the price of admission alone. ![]() However, they hit it out of the park with my flourless chocolate tort. Hipster was less than thrilled with her meal. The pasta was well-cooked, the filling flavorful and the sauce perfectly creamy and rich. But these were actually decent and reasonably plentiful. Anyway, I took my next swing and got the mushroom ravioli. Though that’s like ordering spaghetti and meatballs and only praising the sauce. Or open shells with very shrinky-dink sea creatures in them. The issue with Scala del Nona’s version is that it was mostly a bowl full of empty shells. Though I still like to actually have mussels in my mussels, if you know what I’m saying. Or at least I like the stuff mussels float in. Which was all together funny, confounding and just a little bit sad. Hipster and I spent a good deal of the evening questioning what the hell was going on rather than focusing on our food. I did appreciate these folks, but the whole situation was just kind of weird. They didn’t like tap him on the shoulder and remind him he was working, but rather just spied him standing around and were cool enough to come over and look out for us. His fellow servers seemed to notice his delinquency and jumped in to help. And in other situations kind of wandered around by the weird counter at the head of the space seemingly lost in thought. Despite asking, he said there were no specials (which we realized was not true after hearing another server recite them at another table). He talked very quietly in a space that demands some oomph behind conversations. But our waiter was a couple decades past his prime. And then our “waiter” arrived.Īnd, look, I’m not ageist. And it wasn’t until I walked in for this meal that I realized the room was kind of awkward, the wall art pretty terrible and the fit and finish pretty beat up around the edges. And an interior that I realize I never saw due to either sun glare or window tinting or something going on. It has this fancy sheen on it from the outside, but also a really dirty awning. It was always a little confusing, though. I think perhaps it was Japanese at one point. Employees should be arriving in the back of the house, not the front.I’ve walked by this joint a million times. I do want to point out that on two occasions two employees came through the front of the house who were just arriving to work, as a Culinarian I find it inappropriate especially the one gal who appeared to be in a hurry and knocked a glass off the table behind us as it shattered all over the floor. The staff was very attentive and very lovely. Then we ordered our entrees, I had the stuffed calamari over black ink spaghetti, loved the garlicky flavored sauce the stuffed calamari was grilled perfectly, my father had the stuffed chicken, he enjoyed every bite, my sister had the shells alla vodka, she enjoyed it, my mom had the fra diavolo shrimp tossed in linguine, she enjoyed her dish. For our appetizers, we started off with the Calamari Fritti & Creamy Polenta burrata, both are spectacular, expertly prepared calamari and the polenta was creamy & flavorful. We all started off with bread w/ infused oil cocktails and appetizers, my sister had the expresso Martini, my mom and I had the Christmas Day drink special, House Coquito, which was amazing. who was amazing, he was so kind and professional, had good recommendations and mentioned to us if we had any questions at all about anything not to hesitate. We were warmly welcomed by a gentleman who checked us in and brought us to our table with the specials, menus and drink menu. ![]() Visited this establishment with my family on Christmas Day 12/25/22 a reservation that my sister made.
